In the current scenario, Pakistan star Babar Azam is regarded as one of the greatest batsmen in the world standing, with Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, and Kane Williamson. His form in the last few years has been pure consistent and is seen as performing the one-man show in Pakistan’s squad. The 25-year-old even flaunted his form in the recently concluded series against England, where his team lost the Test series and decently tied the T20 series.
However, the unusual thing is, he has been criticized all the time for some or the other reasons. Recently, Azam saw himself being pointed out for his slow strike-rate. He recently achieved the feat of becoming the number one T20 batsmen in the world before England star Dawid Malan replaced him.
In the same light, Pakistan wicket-keeper batsman Kamran Akmal is taking the side of his teammate by stating that people should try their best in boosting his motivation rather than looking down on a young star like him.
“An even greater tragedy is that people have started to criticize our number one batsman, Babar Azam, saying that he isn’t scoring runs at a fast-enough rate or isn’t winning enough games. What is becoming of us? If we wish to improve things then, instead of looking down on a player like Babar, we should spend our energy motivating him,” Akmal said in an interaction with PakPassion.net.
Equal attention needed for all the players: Kamran Akmal
Akmal emphasized on the fact that team management should pay proper attention to all the players rather than concentrating their focus on some handpicked favourites. The 38-year-old continues to be out of the team even after plying his trade successfully enough in the domestic circuit.
“I feel that the team management needs to make sure that all players in the squad are looked after and given confidence instead of preferring to concentrate and spend energies on a select few who are their favourites,” he concluded.
Babar amassed a total of 195 runs in the three-match Test series against England. He could clinch only 77 runs in the T20I series that followed where he was expected to produce more brilliance of his bat.
