The 55th match of the 2020 edition of the Women Big Bash League (WBBL) saw Sydney Sixers locking horns with Melbourne Stars at North Sydney Oval on November 22, Sunday. The wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy emerged as the star of her team Sydney Sixers as she smashed a scintillating century to take her team to the finishing line in the run-chase.
Losing the toss, Melbourne Stars, led by Meg Lanning were sent to bat first. They managed to post a above-par total of 178 on the board at the loss of 4 wickets in 19 overs. The skipper Lanning emerged as the highest run-getter for her team as she scored 77 runs off 59 deliveries which included 9 fours and 2 sixes. The opening batter Elyse Villani and N Sciver also supported the captain by adding 45 (28 balls) and 32 runs (13 balls) respectively to the scoreboard.
The right-arm medium pacer Marizanne Kapp turned out be the best women with ball for Sydney as she picked a three-wicket haul and finished with the figures of 4-0-34-3. In reply, Sydney Sixers, led by Ellyse Perry had an explosive start as they didn’t lose any wicket till 14th over. The opening duo of Perry and Alyssa Healy stitched a 150-run stand in the middle. While the skipper scored 31 runs off 36 deliveries, Healy launched an assault on the opposition bowlers as she smashed the fourth-fastest century in the history of the WBBL.

The opening batter reached her hundred in just 48 balls and in total added 111 runs on the scoreboard from 52 deliveries before getting dismissed via a run out in 16th over. Her quickfire knock included 15 boundaries and five maximums at a strike rate of 213.46. Alyssa was just 3 runs short of smashing the all-time highest score of 114 runs in the Australian women tournament. Meanwhile, she now has four of the five highest scores in the WBBL registered on her name.
This would be a memorable knock for Alyssa Healy, as the wicket-keeper smashed another ton, her husband and the pace spearhead of Australia men’s team Mitchell Starc was present in the stands to cheer for his wife. As far as the team is concerned, Sydney managed to register victory in the game due to the DLS method as rain interrupted the play.
